GA20 Update From The General Overseer

Greetings from the Church of God Executive Committee.

As you know by now, the Church of God Executive Council has made the difficult and historic decision to postpone the 78th International General Assembly, originally scheduled to be held July 21-24, 2020 in Indianapolis, Indiana. This decision came after hour upon hour of deliberation and discussion among the Council, the Executive Committee, and specially appointed task forces that were assigned to review all the implications of delaying this scheduled meeting.

From the beginning, the priorities in making our decision were clear:

  • The decision had to be pleasing and honoring to the Lord

  • The health and well-being of our members and participants had to be first and foremost in our thought process - and we had to consider both our national and international delegates potentially from 185 nations

  • The financial and economic concerns of the local church, pastors, and delegates had to be factored into the decision, and

  • The decision had to be as least intrusive on the Church of God Minutes and Bylaws as possible.

After consultation with the Executive Council, the Executive Committee, as well as our professional parliamentarians, it is my belief that the decision made to postpone the 2020 General Assembly covered each of those priorities.

What had been our registration site for the 2020 General Assembly has now become our site to answer questions about the postponement of the event. While every question cannot be answered and many decisions still must be made, our goal is to provide you with as much information as is currently available. Please feel free to check back to this website often to get additional updates as they are released.

Although we will not have a General Assembly this year, you can be assured that the Church of God is still “the Church on Mission” with a FINISH Commitment Focus!!
